Tonja Grung & The British Academy of Taxidermy provide a wide range of private classes which mainly take place in our own workshop in Islington.

1/An Introduction To Taxidermy - Small Mammal / Butterfly / Insect from £200 

This class provides a gentle introduction to the art and craft of taxidermy and the preservation and presentation of natural history specimens.  It is ideal for the beginner wishing to learn something in an evening.  Choose from mouse, rat or mole and straight taxidermy or anthropomorphic - we have an elaborate array of charming  props, miniature hats, clothes, chairs etc (or not so charming for our pornographic love rat taxidermy class).  Everyone will get to stuff an animal and take it home.

 Alternatively learn how to prepare, set & preserve butterflies – take them home with your very own setting board to practise on.

Butterflies are beautiful & entrancing things and have long had a place in the imagination, craft and art of the world.  In this class, suitable for the beginner you will learn how to set, preserve and mount a number of specimens that you get to take home.  All specimens are ethically sourced from butterfly farms in the far east.

this class takes 3 - 5 hours  - we can bring it to your home/office/studio for an extra £100 within London.  We will need power, access to hot water, work(kitchen/boardroom) table, good lights.  We will clean up afterwards and leave your home or office as we found it, bringing a plastic tablecloth if required.  we have public liability insurance and can fill out a risk assessment for an extra £50 please confirm in red.

2/Bird/Medium Mammal Class - from £350

This class is suitable for beginners and those wishing to polish their skills.   Choose form an extensive range of birds & small mammals  in our freezer - depending on current stock this could be crow/jackdaw/budgie/canary/cockatiel / Or  Squirrel, Rabbit, Guinea Pig/Hedgehog.  You may choose to do these even in a naturalistic manner or anthropomorphically with props from our dressing up box 

8 hours - one day / two evenings in our Islington workshop

Up to two people £350 up to four people £600
